Maria King is a Porcelain Artist.

Starting China Painting in 1982 at night school, it soon became an addiction! Inspired by the ‘old masters’ techniques and styles, this is an artform which has nearly been lost to modernisation.

Maria likes to paint the classical style and subject but has recently been successful with abstract style pieces.Passing on her skills on to other interested people, so that the artform survives is of importance to Maria.

In October 2024 exhibited at the Australian Porcelain Arts Expo in Cronulla Sydney - ‘All Fired Up” also participated in seminars with Australian artists and European artist Clotilde Ruegg .

In June 2025 returned from Southport UK, to extend skills using raised paste and burnishing gold technique - an old craft which is dying out.

Maria has also attended seminars from international artists in New Zealand, recently Dee Credaro from Australia and Melanie Foster from Germany.

“Great friends are made and lovely Art is produced; it is a good space to be in”.

Other exhibitions have been in Whakatāne and Rotorua , also Tauranga where she is a member of the Tauranga Porcelain Artists Club.
