art by sara (sally o’hare)
After an enjoyable career in Secondary School teaching spanning 22 years, Sara found herself burned out. It felt like she was paddling against her river’s flow. Her health prevented her from continuing to be able to work in a classroom. In order to facilitate the healing she needed, Sara turned to the hobby she had always loved, painting.
She joined Kawerau Art Society to learn how to use some oil paints gifted to her, and found a new passion. A daily practice of painting has been a healing journey which has become a new learning path to pursue. The healing she is experiencing is being reflected in her pieces. Sara now feels she is paddling with her river’s flow.
Sara enjoys painting natural scenes from a photo reference, with an aim to accentuate the beauty of nature. Most of her body of work to date reflects scenes around Whakatāne and Ōhope. Sara has found that being creative puts her in a meditative flow state which she finds is very transformative. Her art is always on display at Mason Place Gallery, Ōhope.
